DESCRIPTION: Length up to 6mm. This delightful little Weevil is never far away from its foodplant and has a grey or blackish body with a patterned black and white checkering on the elytra. The elytra also bears two central black spots. The head and thorax are noticeably paler. BEHAVIOUR: When disturbed the adult drops from the plant and is very difficult to relocate due to the cryptic camouflage. The slug-shaped larvae are covered in very shiny, sticky 'glue' which is distasteful to both potential predators and parasites. DISTRIBUTION: Locally common in southern England, becoming scarce further north. HABITAT: Found wherever Figwort grows such as open wet meadows and hedgerows. This species can also be found on Mullein. PERIOD: Best seen throughout the summer months.
